smartwatch replace the smartphone?
Over the past few years, smartphones have been in peak demand. Big companies like Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi and OPPO produce
millions of devices that flood the markets. According to IDC.com, in the third
quarter of 2017, 377.8 millionsmartphones were delivered globally and 355.6
million in the third quarter of 2018. Although there is a certain decline, the
figures are certainly impressive. Not surprisingly,smartphones have replaced
the dominance of personal computers. More and more people prefer to surf the
web through a device which they can hold in their hands. Everyone wants to be mobile,
to capture something in the moment and share it on social platforms,
browse the internet with just a few clicks on the display and so on.
The superiority of
the smartphone
Considering these facts, it is hard to imagine how a new generation device will be able to replace smartphones and move them from the top. Or maybe it isn’t that hard? Top companies in the technology scope are constantly investing in new types of technology - hardware components, software innovations, connectivity solutions, and many more. The development of flexible displays andbatteries led to the emergence of a new type of device. The first was released by the unpopular Royale brand - FlexPie foldingsmartphone.
An important question is whether we will soon be seeing another type of
device that will become so popular that can displace any smartphone,
whether folding or not. Is it possible for smart watches to keep up to our
expectations?
Like cinema
Imagine a bracelet which gives you the option to perform all functions you associate a cellphone with. A similar device can be seen in the movie "What Happened to Monday? ("What happened with Monday?", 2017) - a futuristic film in which, if we pay more attention, we can see quite interesting technologies. One of them is a smart watch that has a watch shape. Thesmart watch in question, functioned due to a display design similar to a hologram which can be utilized with touch. It provided all the features of today'ssmartphones, but it does not really need a large size physical display to manage. For sure, in movies we often see quite impressive technologies, which in most cases can be realized in the long run. However, asmart watch is not a new idea and it will soon become a mass-produced.
With the fast pace of technological development, we can expect nothing but new
solutions and devices that will have the same functions and far more. And
whether the smart bracelets, designing hologram images that we can use with a
simple touch will be among them, we are going to find out in the near future.
